Buyers looking for an eco-friendly crossover have a new option as Kia has announced the 2023 Sportage PHEV is currently on sale in the United States for $38,490.
The crossover undercuts the Toyota RAV4 Prime by $1,810 and features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup gives the model a combined output of 261 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque.
More importantly, the Sportage PHEV has an electric-only range of 34 miles (54 km) and can be recharged in approximately two hours. While the crossover’s range is quite a bit less than the RAV4 Prime’s rating of 42 miles (68 km), after a summer of $5 per gallon gasoline, there should be plenty of interest.
